Applicant Criteria

Organizations that discriminate on the basis of age, gender, race, ethnicity, disability, national origin, sexual orientation or religious affiliation are ineligible for funding.

  • The Angell Foundation funds only organizations with a 501(c)(3) designation from the Internal Revenue Service
  • The Angell Foundation funds high-impact, programs that serve Southern California and New England communities and address one or more of our five focus areas
  • The Angell Foundation funds established organizations that demonstrate long term success, as well as grass roots organizations that have the potential for effecting change
We look for organizations that:
  • Align their projects and programs with their mission, goals, and financial resources
  • Emphasize accountability, results, and evaluation
  • Are sustainable and have a strong financial foundation with diverse funding sources (except for  certain grassroots organizations)  
  • Stay focused on successful, existing programs or use creative approaches to respond to compelling social issues
  • Collaborate with other agencies to reduce duplication of efforts, fill gaps in programming and engage the community
  • Commit to a candid and consistent dialogue with the Foundation
Funding is not available for:
  • Political organizations or campaigns
  • Fund raising activities, benefit sponsorships, advertisements, or sponsored tables
  • Unrestricted endowments, deficit reduction, or capital projects
  • Individuals
